Safety Edge is Successfully Trialed by Government Agencies

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Iowa State University Institute of Transportation each conducted a number of road paving trials during 2009 in order to test the effectiveness of using commercially available equipment to create a 30° safety edge at the side of the road. The Advant-Edger made by Advant-Edge Paving Equipment, LLC met or exceeded their trial result expectations.

Road beds were paved in several different states including: Georgia, Alabama, Nevada and Iowa using both conventional asphalt mixes and a "warm mix." All trials using the Advant-Edger product proved to deliver a stable, well constructed 30° edge at the side of the road.

It has been known for sometime that a 30° edge at the side of the road makes driving safer. Many municipalities have been hesitant to specify this safety edge in the road construction contracts because they were unsure if such an edge could be successfully and economically produced. Their concerns are now put to rest. The Advant-Edger attaches easily to the screed of any commercial paving equipment and it is easy for the contractor to use.
